Coel Na Mara means ‘music of the sea’ in Gaelic, and when you visit, you’ll see why. Located in Mid Yell, the main settlement on the island of Yell, it offers an attractive, peaceful location overlooking the village pier and sea yet within walking distance of the local shop, post office, pub, boating club and modern leisure centre/swimming pool.

Just 15 minutes drive from the ferry terminals for the Shetland Mainland, Unst and Fetlar, it makes an ideal, central base for exploring the islands. Yell itself has much to offer too of course, whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, birdwatcher, fisherman, walker or just want to enjoy some solitude and get away from it all. Sleeping up to 4 in one twin and one double room, Coel Na Mara has been extensively re-decorated and furnished in recent years. We hold a three star rating under the Visitscotland accreditation scheme and offer clean, modern and spacious accommodation in attractive surroundings.


Spring and summer bring with them long light-filled days ideal for exploring everything the islands have to offer whilst the winter months can throw anything up from spectacular storms to picture postcard snowy scenes.
